Solocellistin und Kammermusikerin

About me

The world-famous contemporary composer Sofia Gubaidulina has said of Olga Dowbusch-Lubotsky’s playing, “her total command of the instrument, her faultless intonation and a very high degree of all-round musicality allow her to give the best suited nuances and colours to works of the most diverse styles and epochs. She is rightly a soloist but also an enrichment for any ensemble”.

Born in Russia (Saratov) she began playing the cello at the age of seven. She studied in Moscow and Hamburg where she successfully completed her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater under Prof. Wolfgang Mehlhorn, thereafter appearing as a soloist and in chamber music ensembles. Olga Dowbusch-Lubotsky’s concerts in the Netherlands, France, Spain, Sweden, Finland, Germany and Russia have all been well- received. She has played at famous international music festivals such as Kuchmo and Savonlinna (Finland), Peter de Grote (Netherlands), New Jersey Festival (USA) etc. Among her chamber music partners are the pianists Irina Schnittke, Geoffrey Madge, Ralf Gothoni, Vladimir Skanavi and Dmitri Vinnik, the violinists Mark Lubotsky, Alexander Brussilovsky, Katarina Andreasson and the viola players Vladimir Mendelssohn, Ferdinand Erblich and others.

Critics attribute to her a "sensitive and beautifully soft though also full sound, supported by brilliant technique".

Together with Mark Lubotsky and Katarina Andreasson she founded the Lubotsky Trio in 2003. As the Lubotsky piano trio she performs with Mark Lubotsky and the Russian pianist Amir Tebenikhin.  As well as classical music she also plays works by the contemporary composers Alfred Schnittke, Sofia Gubaidulina, Alexander Raskatov, Viktor Suslin and Valentin Silvestrov. Sometimes the composers appear as instrumentalists. In 2010 she took part in the Netherlands’ first performance of Gubaidulina’s “Repentance”, for cello, three guitars and double bass. In 2013, together with Irina Schnittke and Mark Lubotsky, she recorded music by Alfred Schnittke on CD. This and other CDs were published by the German label "NCA" (Membran), the Swedish label "BIS" and the Russian Label "Melody."

She has been a lecturer at the Alfred Schnittke Akademie in Hamburg since 2010.
